BR+A+CE stands for Building Research + Architecture + Community Exchange. We’re a newly-formed 501(c)3 community design organization based in Boston. Our board of trustees includes architects, engineers, designers, educators, and students.
BR+A+CE’s mission is to create innovative and progressive community spaces that engages social, cultural, and economic issues around the world. We believe that an interdisciplinary approach uniting art and design professionals with community members ultimately results in a more functional and sustainable project. BR+A+CE, like many community groups, has observed that the lack of access to fresh produce in low-income and underserved communities is a public health and social justice issue. With our community partners Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition who will be operating the stand through the Vigorous Youth group and Brookwood Community Farm who is supplying the produce, we’re seeking to improve access to fresh fruits and vegetables in the Mattapan community. BR+A+CE initiated and designed Boston’s first pedal-powered mobile farm stand in Mattapan. Mid City Steel provided all the steel for the mobile farm stand and Aaron Legg of Trimount Ironwork based in Dorchester fabricated the structure. It has garnered a lot of press, including being featured on Fox 25 channel news. http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/19450376/2012/09/04/mobile-farm-stand-kicks-off-in-mattapan
