Although Mid City Steel’s main business is selling New/Prime steel we are constantly on the lookout for surplus material at reduced costs to pass the savings on to our customer.
Unlike Used Steel which has been used and reclaimed, Surplus Steel is a result of overruns during manufacturing or left overs from very large projects that simply did not get used.
Our Annex Manager, Paul Aguiar, recently came across a deal that was too good to pass up so we bought several truckloads.
Mid City Steel is excited to offer 1/2″ thick 48″ x 120″ High-Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) Steel Plate.
HSLA plate normally costs 25% more than standard A36 plate because of its quality, but thanks to Mid City’s purchasing power we are actually able to sell this plate for up to 20% Less than our standard Prime A36 Plate.
For more information, please contact Paul Aguiar at 774-319-5360 or Contact Us.
What is HSLA Plate?
HSLA is a type of alloy steel that provides better mechanical properties and greater resistance to corrosion than standard carbon steel. HSLA steels vary from other steels in that they are not made to meet specific chemical composition, but rather to specific mechanical properties.
HSLA has a yield strength of 80,000 psi compared to 36,000 psi of standard carbon plate steel. Because of its strength, HSLA also requires 25-30% more power to form, but is also 20-30% lighter than carbon steel with the same strength. HSLA is used in Cars, Trucks, Cranes, Bridges, Roller Coasters, and other sturctures designed to handle large amounts of stress or need a good strength to weight ratio.
